Summit Midstream will be building 115 miles of pipeline with four natural gas compression stations for a total investment of $400 million here in the Buckeye State. It sounds like a good investment at first but are we in danger with this company?
This year in North Dakota a pipeline built by a Summit Midstream subsidiary ruptured and spilled 3 million gallons of saltwater generated by oil drilling. The pipeline could have been monitored but Summit did not use remote sensors.
The chloride levels in this spill are astronomical with about 92,000 milligrams per liter. For comparisons sake average levels of chloride are between 10 – 20 milligrams per liter. Chloride at these levels sterilize soil making planting crops for farmers an impossibility.
Summit will be building their gas gathering infrastructure in Belmont and Monroe Counties. Please notify your county and state environmental officials about this company.
